Indocyanine green under the antimicrobial effect of infrared (808 nm) laser radiation

A comparative study of the antimicrobial photoactivity of indocyanine green (ICG) in various formulations (in phosphate-buff ered saline, in complex with bovine serum albumin (BSA), on silica nanoparticles (SiO₂), and on copolymer matrices) was performed under laser irradiation at 808 nm using Staphylococcus aureus 209 P as a model organism. The relevance of the study is due to the increasing antibiotic resistance and the need to develop eff ective alternative methods of antimicrobial therapy.

Photodynamic treatment using led red (660 nm) and laser infrared (808 nm) radiation for the treatment of simulated abdominal abscesses in laboratory animals

This study examined the eff ectiveness of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (APDT) in the treatment of simulated purulent abdominal abscesses in laboratory animals. Two “radiation + photosensitizer” regimens were tested: 1) using red LED (660 nm) radiation and methylene blue, 2) using laser infrared (808 nm) radiation and indocyanine green.

Gold nanostars as a photoagent under the antimicrobial action of infrared (808 nm) laser radiation

Gold nanostars with an average core diameter of 122,2 nm and a spike length of 114,6 nm were synthesized and characterized at a concentration of 5,36×1010 pcs/ml with an absorption maximum of 840 nm. Gold nanostars were coated with thiolated polyethylene glycol, its amount was about 8×104 molecules per 1 particle and about 4,4×1015 molecules/ml in the colloid. The zeta potential of gold nanostars coated with PEG-SH was −2.3 mV.
