magnetic oil sorbents

Use of water treatment and wood processing industry waste to produce magnetically controlled oil sorbents

This study has examined the potential use of iron-containing waste from a water treatment plant and pine sawdust as an alternative raw material source for producing an inexpensive oil-absorbing sorbent with magnetic properties, synthesized at 500°C. X-ray diff raction analysis has revealed the presence of ferromagnetic α – Fe2 O3 hematite phases in the obtained samples. Granulometry results have showed a particle size distribution ranging from 20 to 70 μm.
