Impact of environmental conditions on the vitality structure of the cenopopulations of the dominant tree tier in the forests of the southern part of the Volga Upland

The vitality structure of cenopulations of woody plants is formed under the influence of ecological, cenotic and anthropogenic influences. The study of the nature and degree of influence of the ecological parameters of the habitat will make it possible to predict the formation of the vitality structure of woody plants. The objects of study are individuals of the generative age state of three species of woody plants: Quercus robur, Tilia cordata, Acer platanoides. Environmental conditions of habitat were assessed by using range ecological scales.

Photocatalytic effect of led radiation (405 nm) and new Al2O3 3D-nanocomposites on the growth of Staphylococcus aureus

The progressive growth of bacterial resistance to antibiotic drugs requires the creation of highly efficient nanomaterials. Aluminum oxide is a stable non-toxic semiconductor material; however, the photocatalytic properties of its modifications in relation to microorganisms are not well understood. In this study, we used new 3D composites of aluminum oxyhydroxide (Al2O3 × nH2O) in three modifications (γ, α and θ), which are a mesh of 150 nm nanofibrils. The assessment of the photocatalytic antibacterial properties of the composites was carried out on the museum strain S. aureus 209 P.

Additions to the «Flora...» by P. F. Maevsky (2014) for the Penza Region

Records of 94 vascular plant species from the Penza Region published before 2013 are missing from the 11th edition of the «Flora of the Central Part of European Russia» by P. F. Mayevsky (2014). An additional 22 species were discovered in the region recently. At least 29 species known in the Penza Region are completely missing from the «Flora…» – Stellaria subulata Boeber ex D. F. K.

Features of selection of winter wheat on grain quality

The quality of grain means a set of technologico-biochemical, baking and food properties determining the economic value of a grain variety. When choosing source material for selection, the degree of grain preservation in adverse environmental conditions is taken into account as well as the genotypic potential of grain yield and quality.

Winter months’ temperature rises effect on duration of phenological phases for Spermophilus pygmaeus Pallas, 1778 populations located in Caspian depression (Astrakhan oblast)

This article provides comparison analysis between 1950–1959’s and 2000–2009’s periods for duration and schedule dates of awakening, spreading and hibernation phases for Spermophilus pygmaeus populations located in the Caspian Depression (by example of Astrakhan Oblast). We learned that within a period of maximum temperature rise in February 2000–2009’s durations of S.pygmaeus’ populations of every phonological phase have shortened and been rescheduled with earlier dates (in comparison to 1950–1959’s).

Antibacterial properties of a biologically active composite based on glauconite

Glauconite, a natural aluminosilicate, exhibits good sorption properties, is an affordable, cheap material, and has the prospect of being used in construction, ecology, medicine, cosmetology, animal husbandry, poultry farming, agriculture, etc. An urgent task is to study the sorption activity of glauconite in the Beloozersky deposit in the Saratov region in relation to biologically active substances for the creation of antimicrobial composites. The elemental composition and surface morphology of glauconite grains are determined.

Introduction of sorts of Clematis L. genus in the South-Ural Botanical Garden-Institute of UFRC RAS

The article presents the results of a long-term of study of biological features of 54 sorts of Clematis L. genus of collection of the SouthUral Botanical Garden-Institute of UFRC RAS. The aim of the work was to summarize the introduction studies for the possibility of successful use of clematis sorts in vertical gardening in the Bashkir Cis-Urals and adjacent territories. During the period 2007 and 2015, the seasonal rhythm of growth and development and vegetative reproduction were studied, and the prospects of introduction and introduction resistance under the culture were assessed.

Development of female hametophytis and embryogenesis of introduced species Picea A. Dietr. in the Taiga Zone (Karelia)

The aim of the research was to establish features in macrosporogenesis, macrogametogenesis, and embryogenesis in Picea species (native species P. abies and introduced species P. canadensis and P. pungens) in the Botanical Garden of Petrozavodsk State University (middle taiga subzone). To study the development of the generative sphere, shoots with generative buds and strobiles from the southwestern side of the crown were cut from 10 trees and fixed in a mixture of alcohol and glycerin. The development of the female gametophyte and the embryo was studied with constant preparations.

Complex Assessment of the Viability and Decorativeness of Species of the Genus Crataegus L. in the Kola North Conditions

The paper presents the results of a comprehensive assessment of the viability and decorativeness of 20 samples of 17 taxa of the genus Crataegus L. when introduced into the Kola North. The study is one of the stages of a systematic description of the adaptive state of plants of the genus Crataegus when introduced into the conditions of the Far North. The main part of the studied samples are highly decorative quite viable plants that have high winter hardiness, maintain their growth shape, are able to produce germinating seeds, and have attractive inflorescences and fruits. The Features of Growth of the Primary Root System of Triticum durum Desf. Varieties of the Saratov Breeding

The objects of the study were plants of 14 varieties of durum wheat Triticum durum Desf. Cultivation was carried out in a climatic chamber at a temperature of 18 ± 1°C under the conditions of a sixteen-hour photoperiod. To study the growth characteristics of the root system of seedlings, the length of the main root and the length of the adventitious roots of the upper and lower tiers were measured; thus, the growth rate of the root system was determined.
